New Study on Adoptive Family Life: How You Can Help

The Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute is conducting a new survey research study exploring the experiences and needs of different types of adoptive families (e.g., single- versus two-parent families; inracial versus transracial families; heterosexual versus sexual minority families; families involved in varying levels of openness, etc). By increasing our knowledge about adoptive family diversity, we hope to enhance training of adoption professionals and improve services for adopted children and their parents.

Somewhere In Between

Our intern, Kelsi, went to the documentary, “Somewhere in Between” with some of our staff and wrote her reaction to it…

The movie is now on Newflix, ‘Watch Instantly!’ “I’ve put adoption into this little box that I only opened when people ask me why I’m standing with this Caucasian family and calling them Mom and Dad and Brother.”

Stuck

STUCK is a new award-winning documentary film, produced by Both Ends Burning that uncovers the personal, real-life stories of children and parents navigating a rollercoaster of bureaucracy on their journeys through the international adoption system, each filled with hope, elation – and sometimes heartbreak.

30th Anniversary Love Party!

This year was memorable for several reasons; the first is that we were so happy to welcome many of the children who are now teens and young adults who came to just say hello. It was particularly meaningful to me, as I was the social worker for many of these older families, so it was great to see the kids with wonderful family experiences and aware of their adoption stories. Our group of teens worked at the carnival and helped the young ones win all of their little prizes…

This conference is geared towards a variety of people in the adoption community including, birth mothers, or a member of a birth family; adoptees or non-adopted sibling of an adoptee; adoptive parents, or a person considering adoption;
and educators, social workers, volunteers, counselors, or other individuals engaged in working with families and individuals, and other family members/individuals touched by adoption.
